This is our finished online edit, completed with different audio and visual effects. One of our group members, Sophie, is the one who edited this, so everything mentioned is based around what she would have done to edit.
This here is the finished audio, where you can also see that visual effects have been added on to most of the clips, and audio effects have been added into some of the background music.
When filming, there were a few clips we had which either had something unnecessary in it or the shot was too long. To fix this, the razor tool would have been used to cut out what was not wanted and then deleted. Another tool that would frequently have been used is the selection tool, as this is what would be used to choose which clips to edit. The text tool also would have been used a lot because it is rather natural for a video like this as it is what a lot of other promotional videos would use to properly show what the intention is.
As the location we filmed in was outside, this meant that there was a lot of wind noise in our audio. This was edited out using the adobe audio enhancer, which turned the speech in our recording more clear. Since the plan was to use music in our production, the parts without speech were cut out and then the new audio files were matched up to the video to make it look like we saying the enhanced versions.
For the opening shots, a soft glow was added to them to show the calm environment before the switch is introduced. This was done by adding an adjustment layer, putting on gaussian blur and editing the opacity.
When edited together, these two clips have a fade transition between them, again done by adding an adjustment layer with gaussian blur. To make it look like they are fading into each other, keyframes were put into it so that the blurriest part is when the clip fades into the other.
Over the top of these clips, Sophie found a royalty free bird chirping sound and used it. This is because our original video had too much wind noise which we got rid of with the sound enhancer, and without any sound effect at all it would have sounded unnatural.
In the next shots of the video, there is a theme of playing with friends in the Switch. This was done for people to know that the first shots aren’t a full accurate representation of the video, and they are just establishing the location we filmed in. This was done by going on the essential graphics panel, placing text over the video and adding a black rectangle into it and changing the blend mode.
For this, a Nintendo Switch clicking sound effect was used to further add to the theme of gaming. After the sound effect, Sophie found a royalty free Animal Crossing inspired track that starts playing and continues to play throughout most of the video. This music is supposed to give off a calm and bubbly feeling to remind the audience of Animal Crossing, which is a game that anyone can play on the Switch.
A visual effect was also included here where the clip has been reversed because in the clip Nathen is handing Sophie the Switch, but in the video Sophie is meant to give it to him, so this was changed for continuity.
Here Sophie created a versus screen, showing that she and Nathen are opponents playing the game. This is so it can feel more like a video game and immerses the audience in the feeling of the promo. This was done by going into the effects control panel, resizing each of the clips, putting them on top of each other and adding a white line between each with the text.
Sophie found a royalty free track of a man introducing a video game fight, saying “one two three fight” and it was incorporated into this scene.
The same effect as the versus screen was replicated in this scene.
The mosaic effect was also used here with keyframes, in order to make it look like Ellie and I are becoming fully immersed into the game we were playing.
A gradual black and white filter was used here with "DEFEAT" text appearing on the screen, as Nathen lost in the video game. Text was also added that says "insert one coin" that flickers at the bottom, to further add to the video game aspect.
