Concept Documents

For P2, I will be working with three other people in a group to create an audio-visual promo for the Nintendo Switch. Working together, we will be making an advert which will last around a minute long, and will be skippable on YouTube.

Medium

The promotional video which we will be making for the Nintendo switch will be a YouTube advert. This is because when it is distributed to the right audience, there will be a lot of viewers who are interested in Nintendo products which will see this.

Running time

When looking at the running time, the video will be just over a minute long. If the advert was chosen to be one which can’t be skipped, then most of the viewers it will get would likely click off, which is why it would be best for the viewer to be given the option to skip over it if they want to. With the video being this long and with it also being skippable, it would mean it would cost as much as any other type of ad to keep it running.

Synopsis/outline

The way that the promo video will play out will be in ways of showing the mobility, functionality, and some gameplay on the console. The mobility, will include shots to show the different modes the Switch can be played in. For example, the handheld mode, tv/docked mode, and tabletop mode. This could also include the use of the pro controller which can be bought separately and usually makes the docked/tabletop gameplay a bit easier.

There will also be parts to show the functionality, as in the joy cons being taken off and used for multiplayer, and the rear stand for the tabletop gameplay. Though, when showing the rear stand, there could even be a bit of a jokey scene where the stand just breaks when trying to stand up the console to play on the tabletop mode. This would be a fun kind of thing for people who already own the base model of the switch, who would know how much of a pain this little stand is.

There is a chance that the end of the advert, there will be a gif like scene where there are covers of different Nintendo switch games moving in lines across the screen, with information about the console and including things like a QR code and/or a link to the website where it can be bought.

Target audience/genre

The target audience of this advert would be the average audience for any Nintendo product, which is mainly families and especially their ‘older’ generation as Nintendo usually aim their products at them in order to keep them around.

When looking at demographics as a whole, this advert would be aimed at mainly teenagers through young adults, but could also be children as well because in general the console is classed as family friendly. The gender that it is targeted at, also, is typically split 50/50 as there is nothing really about the console itself that could class it in this way.

The psychometrics that this advert would be aimed at would mainly be mainstreamers because they like tried and trusted brands and being a part of a large group of people, which is a lot like the users of Nintendo products. However, it could also be aimed at explorers as they like to find new things and experiences, and this is about exactly what the Switch is because there is probably no other console which has even a similar experience to this one (being able to play it as both a home and a portable console).

In a sense of geographics, the advert will be national/UK aimed (it may cost more for it to be distributed to anywhere else).

The genre of the advert will be promotional, as it is giving the product attention for people to see and possibly consider buying and promoting the product. It will also be under the gaming category, as it is a console which games can be played on.
