Explain the structure of the audio visual promos

In this document, I will be discussing the way that different audio visual promos are used to reach their audiences.

Nintendo Switch OLED Model

Nintendo is one of the multiple video game and console companies. their idea mainly with their newest console, the Nintendo switch, was to keep their oldest players around. the design of the switch does however highly resemble the Wii U and the bottom screen of the 3ds, which would be a nostalgic way of keeping their older players. though, Nintendo's way of giving this device an upgrade was improving the screen with Samsung Display's OLED screen, increasing the size to 7 inches rather than the 6.2 inches on the original.

During the video, there is plenty of close-up shots of the details of the console and the quality of the gameplay. This would mainly be to show the comparison how much of an improvement this screen and the whole body of the console is to the original models. The games played in most of these shots, too, are relatively new ones or just ones known for having impeccable graphics (Metroid Dread, breath of the wild, Splatoon 2). At the beginning, there is also a close-up shot of the man’s eyes dilating, showing him or anyone really could become invested in the quality of the visual gameplay.

The song used in the video is the same the whole way through, with sound effects included from the games being played in some of the scenes. In certain parts, the music is incorporated into the video, like for example at 0:34 the song says, “we can go higher than we’ve ever been before” and the gameplay is of a game character falling through the sky.


The props in the video can include the switch itself, the separate joy cons, the switch’s dock and the other physical parts, the games being played could also count as props. Even though this is like a brand-new thing, the main base of the console is the exact same as the original, the joy cons would be no different, as they can be sold separately, and the 'old' ones can be connected to this for multiplayer purposes, though it isn’t shown in the video as it is supposed to be all about the new thing.

Each of the people in the video are mostly wearing simple, regular clothing which can show that anyone (who can afford it) can have this console.

The way that it transitions from handheld gameplay to docked/tv shows that you can only really get the most of it if you have a tv like that (a newer one, like with 4k resolution), which can show that this is more of a handheld device rather than a home one, even though the price is around £50 more than the original model. Most of the scenes which have televisions in them show this too. The high-quality editing at the very beginning, where it shows the details in detail, in a way also reflects the high quality screen of the console.


AirPods Max – Journey into Sound

Apple have been coming out with models of AirPods for a few years now, with about 5 or 6 different models. They mainly became popular for their minimal looks and the way they are easy to use for their intended use, on iPhones and iPads, however since they are Bluetooth they can be used on near enough any device that has Bluetooth capability. The AirPods Max brought a new generation of AirPods, with an expensive over ear headphones version.

During the video, there are a lot of close-up shots of the material, the buttons, just the details that mean a lot for the headphones. Apple products in general are high quality, so seeing the details can show this and how much thought and time it took for them to get to this.

The video also includes CGI effects. This can be a representation and reflection of how it actually feels to wear the headphones.

When looking at the quick change to the person in their room shows that it can be just a normal person who can get them, even though they are expensive. This change can also show how someone can get invested in their music and sound quality, and showing how something massively loud can only then be a distraction. The look of them mainly seems like the type of product to have just to be able to say you have them, like having it is a flex, juxtaposing this first point. this can be because these headphones are now near enough the same as the AirPods Pro, just with less features and more expensive.


Concrete - Lovejoy

Lovejoy is a band that was originally brought to their fame from their lead singer, Wilbur, who had a lot of viewers and followers on different platforms a long time before the band was created. Their song Concrete is a part of their album Pebble Brain, and is the third most popular song, but definitely a fan favourite of their music videos. The Concrete music video in particular is a simple one yet can show to have some meaning behind some of the things that goes on.

During the video, it is clear the overall quality is not good, not as in the camera quality is bad it is just low, which could be because of the low lighting in the club setting or because of the editing settings they would have used, and either way this would be intentional as it could have been made better from using editing, though the lead Wilbur does have other content which relates to stuff that is made with lower quality cameras. Though, this could have been done in a way to relate with the audience. For example, it does look like the whole video has been shot on a phone, hence the rounded edges and the low quality. The way the video is shot, as well, is mainly in long timed shots, and even if the camera cuts to a new scene, it is still near enough in the same area as the shot before. The public in the music video have their eyes scribbled out consistently, even including the seagulls at the endThis could have been done to be different and to make it more enjoyable for the viewers to spot it, to include something in a quirky kind of way that not many others would have done before this.

The way how during this, the main person in all of the shots has a drink in his hand, most likely alcoholic, meaning he could be doing this purely to spite his girlfriend, since she possibly found out about him cheating. Linking back to the clothing the characters are wearing, these can show the difference between the two guys, the main one being the nice one wearing white and the one wearing black being the evil one, however this could be opposed because the main one wearing white was the one who cheated on a girl, and the one in black could be beating him up because he found out about what had happened.


Dumb Ways to Die – Dumb Ways to Die

The Dumb Ways to Die video is a public service announcement made by Metro, in Australia, in order to raise awareness about safety around trains. It does this in a way of using humour and silly looking characters. As the video progresses, the ways of these characters dying increasingly becomes stranger and more dangerous.

During the video, there are plenty of different ways that cinematography is used, even though the video is animated, mainly through the way it is animated and the choices of design. For example, the design of it uses bright colours and simple character designs which would create a cheerful tone for the viewers. And then, the animation replicates this as the characters can be seen to move in exaggerated manners. The ‘camera’ work, however, is limited however because of the number of cuts between each of the scenes.

As the video is animated, there isn’t much of an idea of what the props could be, however, the things that each of the characters die from could count. For example, the snake, the red button, superglue and all of the other things like it.

Looking at the semiotics, the video uses different symbols and images to put across its message. The simple character design can also make them look cute, meaning the scenarios they are put in can make sympathy for them. The humour used can also help to soften the message and make it more pleasant, with it still being effective to show the importance of train safety. The music used is also helps show an upbeat and light-hearted tone of the video.
