Recording
We used a film camera (Canon Legria HF 650 4K), and a tripod for the recording of our audio visual promo. The tripod was mainly used for the fact that the movement in the majority of the shots were going to be stationary, and on stable ground this meant that.
When we started filming our production, it was only Sophie and Nathen, and they didn’t have access to a tripod as i was the one bringing it. This meant that they were limited to what shots they could do in the time they had until Ellie and I got there.
During the recording, we did end up having a few issues. The Nintendo switch we used didn't work properly, as in it didn't turn on, so we were not able to get any footage of gameplay on it. However, if I had thought ahead I would have brought my own so we could have got scenes of us playing actual gameplay. It was quite windy and also sunny, which wasn't the best weather as some of us were freezing cold while sat recording in front of the camera.
Entirely through the recording, we were able to avoid any legal constraints. This is because around us, even outside of the park where it would have been able to be seen on the camera, there was nothing that went past that had a trademark on it, and there was also no adverts around the area of the park we were in.
For the most part, we were able to avoid any problems related to health and safety. However, as already mentioned, it was very sunny, which did end up giving a couple of people in our group a bit of sunburn, which they were both able to treat afterwards.
We were able to avoid having any members of the public who would've been at Sandall park at the time of us recording as the area we filmed in was quiet anyway, and if the shots do have people in them then they are far in the distance. However if it was busier in the park that day, we would have given the people likely to be in it some warning and asked them for permission just to be in the background, or found a different area to film in.
Some of the scenes we shot do actually match up with some of the drawings from the storyboard:
^ These two on the story board visually matched near enough perfectly with what was filmed.
^ This one of a shot of the switch also matched up, just without the game on the screen as the switch would not work while we were recording.
^ The beginning scene matches up to the one drawn on the storyboard, just without the people and the noises they are making.
Our Roles
My role in our production was to bring part of our equipment, the tripod. This meant that until I got there, there was only handheld shots which Nathen and Sophie took. Myself, along with all four of us, starred in the promo. Sophie was our director, along with Nathen some parts, however it was mainly Sophie as she was the one who drew the storyboards and best knew how to do each shot. She also brought the film camera we used and the Switch. Ellie was the one who occasionally took photos (the ones above) of us using the equipment and some before and while shots were being filmed.
Legal and Ethical Constraints
We were able to work around the possible constraints that may have had an effect on our production.
One of the issues would have been based around copyright. This is because our plan was to use footage from different Nintendo games. This was able to be worked around because we ended up only showing footage of us using the Joy Cons rather than the actual screen. Another issue would have been trademarks from other companies. While filming one of the scenes, there was a bus that went past which had an advert for a new film coming out on the side. We were able to work around this by re-recording the clip, as based on bus times there shouldn’t have been another one to come past moments later while doing so.
We also filmed our promo on a bench at the edge of the park, which was far away from the busiest areas of the park so there was hardly any people around who could have gotten in our shots. And even so, we would have been able to re-record any clips that had the public in them once they had left our recording area.
